There are fewer drugs available for the treatment of HIV in babies and children than in adults. Also, there are restrictions on the use of some of the available drugs according the age or weight of a child.
The first recognized cases of AIDS occurred in the USA in the early 1980s. The discovery of HIV, the Human Immunodeficiency Virus, was made soon after.
